Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar questioned Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson on his shot selection pattern.

On Tuesday, Rajasthan Royals pulled off a thrilling win against Kl Rahul’s side despite the match was in Punjab’s favour till the final over.

However, Samson could make only add four runs to the team’s total of 185 as he nicked the ball behind the stumps to get himself out against Ishan Porel.

Samson played a lazy cut and KL Rahul took a spectacular one-handed catch behind the stumps.

Sanju Samson’s shot selection has to be much better for him to play for India

Gavaskar feels Samson needs to better his shot selection else it won’t help at the international or IPL level.

“What has let him down is the shot selection. Even at the international level, he doesn’t open the batting there. He was the second or the third wicket down. And he looks to hit the first ball out of the ground. That is impossible. That is absolutely impossible even if you’ve been in the richest vein of form. You have got to maybe knock it around for maybe twos and threes and get the feet moving and then look to play,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“That is something he is going to watch out for. Because otherwise, it is going to be a waste of such God-given talent. I have always said that a lot of shot selection boils down to temperament. That is what separates the men from the boys. And therefore, for him to go on and be a regular player for India, his shot selection has to be that much better,” he added.

Samson started IPL 2021 with a marvellous 119 against Punjab Kings this season and has scored 281 runs from eight matches so far in the tournament.
