Cricketer-turned-commentator Deep Dasgupta feels there were extremely harsh words used by KKR skipper Eoin Morgan and his supporters against Ravichandran Ashwin in a recent controversial matter.
In a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, a heated argument took place between Ashwin and Morgan, overtaking a second run where the spirit of the game was once again brought to the question.
Ravichandran Ashwin had a spat with Eoin Morgan
During the Delhi Capitals innings, Ashwin decided to go for a second run after a throw deflected skipper Rishabh Pant which didn’t go well with the KKR players.
In the final over, Tim Southee dismissed Ashwin as both the players had few words of exchange before Morgan took a go at the off-spinner. Both Ashwin were almost at each other’s throats only for Karthik to intervene to separate the two players.
Better words could have been used to disagree with Ashwin: Deep Dasgupta
Dasgupta said that even though he might not agree with Ashwin’s decision but the words used against him didn’t justify at all and some better word could have been used to disagree.
“My opinion can be different and I may disagree with Ashwin, and that is fine. But the words that have been used so far like ‘disgrace’ and ‘ashamed,’ these are very harsh words. These are extremely, extremely harsh words. If there is only disagreement, better words could have been used,” Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.
“Just because your thoughts are different and mine are different from yours, does not mean words like these are used. Especially from influential people and role models in cricket. Fewl weird hearing things like these from them,” he added.
Ashwin later opened up about the entire incident on his official Twitter handle and dismissed the claims of being a disgrace to the game. The Tamil Nadu player requested those against him to not confuse other players by enforcing the principles of Spirit of the game.
