This was revealed to the ANI by a BCCI official who was privy to the developments. BCCI Keen On A 25-Day Window, Hence IPL 2021 To Resume On Sept 19 And Final To Be Played On October 15

India was seeing the second wave of the COVID-19 in the country when the Indian Premier League 2021 began in April 2021 across multiple venues in India. The BCCI was confident of holding the tournament in the country which was seeing a downward graph of COVID cases, but as the tournament went on, numbers started rising sharply.

With four players, two coaches, and multiple support staff and ground staff testing COVID positive after the bio-bubble was breached, the BCCI and IPL governing council had to postpone the tournament on May 4 after 29 matches were played.

Later on, the BCCI resumed talks of holding the Indian Premier League 2021 outside India and received interest from Sri Lanka and the UAE. In the end, it was finalized that the Indian Premier League 2021’s second half is to be moved to the desert country.

The discussions went really well and with ECB already giving us the oral nod to host the event ahead of the BCCI SGM, it was about closing the deal over the last week. The first game after the season resumes will be held on September 19 while we will have the final on October 15. The BCCI was always keen on a 25-day window to finish the remaining matches,” the official told ANI.

There are still 31 matches remaining in the tournament including 3 playoff matches and the final.
