Former Australian Brad Hogg expressed his views on the recent controversial matter between Delhi Capitals off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Eoin Morgan.
In a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, a heated argument took place between Ashwin and Morgan, overtaking a second run where the spirit of the game was once again brought to the question.
R Ashwin -Eoin Morgan spat during KKR vs DC match
During the Delhi Capitals innings, Ashwin decided to go for a second run after a throw deflected skipper Rishabh Pant which didn’t go well with the KKR players.
In the final over, Tim Southee dismissed Ashwin as both the players had few words of exchange before Morgan took a go at the off-spinner. Both Ashwin were almost at each other’s throats only for Karthik to intervene to separate the two players.
Unwritten rules should be scraped, play to the laws: Brad Hogg
Brad Hogg questioned Morgan that in case Ashwin would have been run out after the ball deflected Pant, would he call the player back.
“If Pant (knowing the throw hit him) turned his back on Ashwin who looking for the second had to retreat causing a run out would Morgan have called him back? Unwritten rules should be scraped, play to the laws. #IPL2021,” Brad Hogg tweeted.
KKR wicket-keeper Karthik said that Morgan wasn’t happy with that second run and he holds the principles of spirit of the game.
“Rahul Tripathi threw the ball, it hit Rishabh Pant and then ricocheted. And Ashwin called for it and they started to run. I don’t think Morgan appreciates that. I think he’s somebody who, when the ball hits the batsman or the bat, he expects them not to run in the spirit of cricket,” Karthik had said after the match,” Karthik said after the match.
Many experts and fans were divided with this spirit of cricket debate and many called out the Tamil Nadu spinner disgrace and ashamed to the game.
