Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag made a hilarious comment on Australian all-rounder Dan Christian’s performance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday.
After opting to bat first, RCB posted a meagre total of 138/7 as West Indies spinner Sunil Narine wreaked havoc with the ball as he picked the crucial wickets of skipper Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell to end with the figures of 4/21.
Sunil Narine smashes Daniel Christian for three sixes in a row
Narine’s impact was not only restricted with his bowling, but he also made sure to count his batting performance, too, as he clobbered three continuous sixes against Christian’s bowling in the 12th over. Narine’s carnage brought down the required run rate to less than seven runs per over.
Some brilliant bowling by Harshal Patel (2/19) and Mohammed Siraj (2/19) pushed the game to the final over.
Christian had seven runs to defend in that decisive, over which he failed to do so as Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scooped the ball for a four, and KKR won by four wickets.
Daniel Christian’s over was the turning point for KKR: Virender Sehwag
Christian’s selection in the RCB team was the talking point as the Australian all-rounder just managed to score 14 runs from nine games in IPL 2021.
Sehwag cheekily mentioned that RCB would have won the match had Christian bowled to himself and also said that the team could have opted for New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson instead of the Australian all-rounder.
“Dan Christian must be thinking if only he could have bowled the last over to himself only then Bangalore would have had a chance of winning.
“In Dan Christian’s over, Sunil Narine hit three consecutive sixes, and in a low-scoring match, he scored 22 runs in a single over. Dan Christian scored a total of 14 runs in eight matches and gave away 22 runs in one over, which was the turning point of the game.
“If he is the lucky charm, Bangalore could have just kept him in the squad, especially when you had players like Jamieson and Tim David on the bench,” he said.
KKR will meet Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (October 13).
