Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Eoin Morgan has been “happy” with his team’s adaptability to the conditions in the UAE, he said after a 6-wicket win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) in Dubai on Sunday.

Shubman Gill starred in the chase of a low target of 116, scoring 57 runs off 51 balls, while it was the spin trio of Varun Chakravarthy, Shakib Al Hasan, and Sunil Narine that tied up SRH’s batters.

Eoin Morgan applauded his bowlers and fielders for restricting SRH to below 120. He was also effusive in praise for Gill, who hit his first fifty of the season, and Shakib, who was called upon to fill the boots of the injured Andre Russell in the all-rounder’s role, and was brilliant with the ball.

“The wicket played slower than we thought than the wicket two nights ago. It swings early in the powerplay in these conditions, but it was sluggish. We needed to bowl and field well and we did. Shubman played extremely well and led the chase. The depth of the squad to be able to call Shakib is a huge luxury, so he has had a huge impact,” Eoin Morgan said at the post-match presentation.

KKR have now won 4 out of their 6 matches in the UAE leg this season and have placed the right foot in the direction to finish in the top 4.

This has come after a disappointing show in the India leg. The KKR skipper talked about the “good impact” of their game plan in the change room while commending his players for making the fine adjustment to the conditions in the UAE.

“We didn’t know it wouldn’t be played in India, and we have done well in the conditions and adapted well. We are focussed on playing good cricket and we’ve done that in the last three weeks. The game plan has had a good impact in the dressing room and guys are putting their hands up. We have done well to adapt to the slow conditions and I’m happy with that,” Eoin Morgan concluded.

With this win, KKR now have 12 points in 13 games and are sitting fourth on the points table. Their last league stage match is against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday in Sharjah.
