IPL: 5 Records Which Are Impossible To Break
Updated - 27 Nov 2023, 04:48 PM
The standards have been so high in IPL that some of the records remain impossible to break still and the trend has been continuing for a long time now. The records have been piling up and the cash-rich tournament does not stop from entertaining the crowds and the fans of the franchises.
The 2021 IPL is set to start in two days’ time in India but this is one of those tournaments when no franchise will relish their home advantage due to the pandemic restrictions going on. Here are five records in the IPL history that will remain impossible to break.
5 Records Which Are Impossible To Break:
Virat Kohli – 973 Runs In A Single Season:
2016 turned out to be a great season for Virat Kohli as he smashed 973 runs in a single season. It was a stellar effort from the Indian skipper and ended up breaking a lot of records in the year. He hit four centuries in the season in 16 games which itself remains a record and averaged 81 with the bat.
Kohli who is always known for consistency entertained the home crowd with inspiring performances and his efforts led to the IPL final for the Royal Challengers Bangalore which they lost to Sunrisers. Kohli had almost hit 1000 runs in the seasons and his massive achievement will remain impossible to break.
Chris Gayle – 175 Individual Score:
Chris Gayle shocked the world with a massive knock of 175 in the 2013 IPL playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Pune Warriors India in a league phase match. He smashed the bowling apart and created a unique feat that remains the highest individual score in T20 cricket.
Gayle’s knock comprised 17 sixes and 13 fours at a strike rate of 265.15 and hit Aaron Finch for 29 runs in a single over. He took the total to 263 on the board for the loss of five wickets and RCB eventually won the match by 130 runs. Gayles’s innings will go down as one of the best in cricket history.
37 Runs In One Over – IPL 2011:
Again, the big man from the Caribbean had another say in the impossible records to break as he hit Prashanth Parameshwaran for 37 runs in a single over in the IPL 2011. It was the third over of the innings in a match between Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Royal Challengers Bangalore and a no-ball proved too costly.
Gayle hit the first two deliveries for two sixes and the second ball had to be bowled as it was a no-ball. The third and fourth ball was hit for two fours and it was already 21 runs off the over with three balls to go. But the carnage did not end, as fifth and sixth balls went for sixes and the final delivery went for a four making it 37 in an over. It was impossible for a bowler to concede more than 36 in an over without bowling extras.
Sohail Tanvir – Most Economical Spell- IPL 2008, RR vs CSK:
Tanvir dismantled the entire CSK batting lineup and CSK was bundled out for just 109 runs in 19 overs. Rajasthan chased down the target with more than 5 overs in hand. Both teams ended up as the finalists of the tournament and Rajasthan cruised to victory to lift the inaugural title.
RCB – Lowest Team Total, IPL 2017: 49 Runs All Out:
Nathan Coulter Nile, Chris Woakes, Colin De Grandhomme all picked up three wickets each and Virat Kohli could not believe what was happening out in the ground. No batsman in the RCB lineup got off to double figures which was very strange and it doesn’t happen always.
