It Won’t Take Much Time For CSK To Start The Tournament In A Positive Manner – Parthiv Patel

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman, Parthiv Patel is confident that the Chennai Super Kings will have a much brighter start to their IPL campaign this year than they did last year. CSK won just 2 of their first 7 games in IPL 2020 and eventually finished second to last at the points table, crashing out of the tournament for the first time in the league stage.

Parthiv Patel, who played for CSK in the first three seasons, reveals that he has spoken with skipper MS Dhoni a few times and reckons that Dhoni himself after an underwhelming tournament last year is eager to step into the field soon in the IPL 2021.

“He (MS Dhoni) had an indifferent season last year but as we saw how keen he is (spoke to him few times) and he is very determined to get CSK’s ball rolling to start with. These are the teams who have done well and they know that once they win the first game or the second game – they can start believing again. So, it won’t take much of time for CSK to start the tournament in a positive manner,” Parthiv Patel said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Last year they were not getting enough runs on the board: Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel, who has taken up the role of a Talent Scout for the Mumbai Indians, pointed out that Men in Yellow struggled with the bat last season. However, the cricketer-turned-commentator believes that CSK is bolstered by the return of Suresh Raina in the middle-order, and also with the domestic form Ruturaj Gaikwad, who hit three consecutive fifties in the last three games for CSK.

The 3-time champions have also roped in spin-bowling all-rounders Moeen Ali and Krishnappa Gowtham at the IPL 2021 auction. They commence their campaign on April 10th against last season’s runner-ups, Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium.

“See, obviously they must be slightly disappointed that they have to get out of Chennai because they have got Moeen Ali in their squad, they have got K Gowtham in their squad. Last year, what went wrong for CSK was, that they were not getting enough runs on the board. Then, in the latter half of the tournament, you saw the emergence of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“And now with Suresh Raina coming in the squad, I think he holds big key in the CSK lineup and we have seen what he has done throughout the years of IPL. With him coming back and Ruturaj Gaikwad doing well in domestic cricket and plus MS Dhoni, they’re great players, and you can’t count them out for too long,” Parthiv Patel asserted.
