One of Chennai Super Kings’ newest recruit Krishnappa Gowtham will have the chance of rubbing shoulders with the franchise’s star player and captain MS Dhoni. Krishnappa Gowtham, who was part of Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, has begun his training with the yellow army. The Karnataka-born all-rounder termed MS Dhoni as the bowler’s captain since he knows how to get the best out of them.

Krishnappa Gowtham fetched a mind-boggling price of INR 9.25 crores in the IPL 2021 auction. The 32-year old stunned the cricketing fraternity since he struggled in IPL 2020 for the Kings XI Punjab, playing two matches, taking a wicket and managing only 42 runs. By going for INR 9.25 crores, Gowtham became the most expensive uncapped player ever in IPL auction history.

Krishnappa Gowtham said that bowlers love playing under MS Dhoni since he understands their strengths and how to get the best out of them. Gowtham also conceded that he is under no pressure while playing for a top-notch side like Chennai Super Kings. He commented that due to CSK’s long association with the game, they keep encouraging players when things don’t go right.

Bowlers love playing under Mahi bhai because he understands a bowler’s strengths and knows how to get the best out of him. I don’t feel any pressure of expectations playing for a champion side like CSK. The CSK management understands cricket owing to its long association with the game which again reflects in its approach to players the comforting words and confidence given when things aren’t going right,” Gowtham said as quoted by CSK’s official website.

Krishnappa Gowtham further stated that the presence of a strong leadership group helps players to express themselves freely if anything is needed. Thus, the veteran believes that when outside matters are taken care of, it helps the cricketers perform to the best of their abilities.

“It makes a big difference as it helps a player to express himself. They talk to the player if anything specific is needed or if he’s working on something. When these things are taken care of, it’s much easier for a player to go out and give his best,” he added.
