Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has added an interesting point stating that Mumbai could have bought the impressive Marco Jansen in the mega IPL auction. The tall speedster from South Africa, Marco Jansen had an impressive debut for the Mumbai Indians in their first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021.
This has also led to the fact that Marco Jansen will gain a lot of bucks in the upcoming mega auction and Mumbai will have to spend a lot more money to grab the services of the South African. Marco Jansen finished with figures of two wickets for 28 runs in his four-over spell and bowled a superb last over defending just 7 runs.
“Mumbai Indians Could Have Swept In Next Year” – Scott Styris
Scott Styris brought out the fact that Mumbai’s plans to reveal Marco Jansen might be a bad move considering that there will be a mega auction coming in the next year. His impressive start will certainly increase his price tag and Mumbai might have to fight out with other teams to pick him up now. He also added that Mumbai could have planned for him for a long time like they had the services of Lasith Malinga.
“I think this is a bad move for Mumbai Indians to pick up Marco Jansen right now, because now, as we are doing, we are talking about it, everybody is talking about it. And with the possibility of a major auction next year, then I think Mumbai may have to suddenly pay up big bucks because they are not going to keep him.
“So, I would suggest, to think a little bit long-term, maybe put him on the ice this year and Mumbai Indians could have swept in next year having for a long time like Lasith Malinga. Because I think he has got that skill to be a starting front-line bowler in the IPL for 10 years,” said Scott Styris.
“I Thought It Was A Phenomenal Performance” – Scott Styris
Scott Styris was very impressed with the way Marco Jansen bowled and he heaped praises on the youngster. The South African can hit the 140 Kmph speeds consistently as well as gets a lot of bounce which could be tough for the batsmen to play him.
“I thought it was a phenomenal performance. I haven’t seen much of him as well. I asked Parthiv Patel, who has had a little bit of scouting experience with Marco. All around, I thought he is incredibly impressive and the reason for that is not about the simple factor that he gets bounce because he is six foot eight, which is what you expect.
He touched 143mph, which is a serious pace. He is going to get bounce if he has got pace. And he started, on that pitch, to bowl the slower balls as well,” said Scott Styris on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.
Mumbai Indians lost the first game against RCB and they will now be up against the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next fixture on Tuesday evening.
