Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed his confusion over leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s omission from India’s T20 World Cup squad.

On Sunday, Chahal bowled brilliantly against Mumbai Indians as he not only got some important breakthroughs but also controlled the flow of runs from the opposition’s end.

Chahal bowled a phenomenal spell of 3/11 from his four overs as Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 111 in the second innings at the Dubai International Stadium.

I can’t fathom why Yuzvendra Chahal was omitted from the T20 World Cup squad: Virender Sehwag

Rahul Chahar, who was picked in the squad ahead of Chahal, has managed to pick only one wicket in the second leg of IPL 2021 so far. Against RCB, the MI leg-spinner returned with the figures of 1/33.

Sehwag sought an explanation from the Indian selectors for ignoring Chahal in the T20 World Cup squad.

“Chahal was bowling well in the past also. I can’t fathom why he was omitted from the T20 World Cup squad. The selectors should provide the explanation. It’s not like Rahul Chahar bowled extraordinarily in Sri Lanka. The way Chahal is bowling, he will be an asset for any side in T20 cricket,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

The game was set up today by Glenn Maxwell and Yuzvendra Chahal: Virender Sehwag

Mumbai Indians were in a commanding position to chase 166 as openers Rohit Sharma (43) and Quinton de Kock (24) had set the tone with their brisk partnership of 57 runs before Chahal broke the stand by getting the wicket of the South African batsman.

Ishan Kishan was promoted up the order at no.3 as RCB skipper Virat Kohli introduced Glenn Maxwell in the bowling attack. Maxwell kept his captain’s faith as he got the big wicket of the Mumbai Indians skipper on the final ball of the 10th over.

After Rohit’s departure, Mumbai Indians middle-order slumped atrociously as Maxwell and Chahal got wickets at regular sessions before purple-cap holder Harshal Patel bagged a hat-trick in the 17th over to script a marvellous comeback for RCB in the game.

“He knows how to bowl in his format, how to take wickets. The game was set up today by (Glenn) Maxwell and (Yuzvendra) Chahal. They took wickets in the middle orders which led to a turnaround,”Sehwag said.

Chahal picked five wickets in the last three games which takes his tally to nine wickets in the tournament, it shows an immense change in his bowling after going through a rough patch in the first leg.
