The batsmen for Chennai Super Kings underperformed in the most recent IPL 2023 season opener between Gujarat Titans and CSK, and CSK ultimately lost the game. This prompted CSK skipper MS Dhoni to criticize his team’s batting performance.
Dhoni remarked that the team’s shot selection and ability to rotate the attack could be improved. He was disappointed by their lack of partnerships and inability to generate any momentum during their innings.

The Chennai Super Kings were defeated by the Gujarat Titans for the third time in a row in the IPL. Captain MS Dhoni was dissatisfied with his team’s batsmen because they failed to deliver when it mattered. Despite Ruturaj Gaikwad’s outstanding innings of 92 off 50 balls, no other batsmen could maintain the momentum, and CSK concluded with 178 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

The Gujarat Titans, on the other side, chased down the goal of 179 runs in 19.2 overs, owing to Hardik Pandya’s all-around effort. The Titans won the toss and chose to bat first on a solid batting wicket. Unfortunately, CSK failed to capitalize on the opportunity, and the Titans won the first game of the season.
“Another 15-20 runs would have been good” – MS Dhoni
Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni shared his honest assessment of his side’s performance during a post-match interview, admitting that they had fallen short in the first innings. Dhoni stated after the game that they were at least 15 runs short of their anticipated total. He also admitted that the team’s batsmen must improve their game and bat more efficiently.
“We were slightly short. Another 15-20 runs would have been good. We all know there would be a little bit of dew. Also, it was a 7.30 pm start so the ball holds on a little early on. Also, we could have batted properly in the middle overs as opposed to trying to muscle the ball…..I think it’s important for youngsters to step in. I think Raj (Hangargekar) has pace and he will get better with time. Think the bowlers will get better, a no-ball is something that’s in your control, so you need to work on that,” said MS Dhoni at the presentation ceremony.
In the first game of the IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets. This was CSK’s third straight loss to Titans in the Indian Premier League.
