The 33-year-old Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has achieved an absolutely remarkable milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he has become just the second player after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to achieve the feat.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered a brilliant performance in the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, May 15.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, and Mohammed Shami in the match to complete a phenomenal 5-wicket haul. In his 4-over spell, the premier pacer gave away just 30 runs.

With the bat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar contributed just 27 runs off 26 balls, with 3 fours, but ended up being on the losing side. Thus, he became only second player in IPL history after Ravindra Jadeja to bag a 5-wicket haul and score 25-plus runs in an IPL match.

Notably, Jadeja had scored 48 runs in 2012 against the Deccan Chargers at Vizag and picked up 5 wickets for just 16 runs in the match.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Becomes Just The 3rd Bowler To Bag Two 5-wicket Hauls In IPL History

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also become just the third bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to bag two 5-wicket hauls in IPL after James Faulkner and Jaydev Unadkat.

Talking further about records, in the second innings of the match Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma bagged a 4-wicket haul each. This was only the third time two 4-wicket hauls were taking in an innings in the history of IPL.

Overall, this was the first-ever instance in IPL history when three bowlers bagged 4 or more wickets in the match. Also, the 17 wickets picked up by pacers in the match were the most ever in an IPL game.

Also, a century by GT batter Shubman Gill and a 5-wicket haul by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the match is only the second instance of a century, and a five-wicket haul both being achieved in an IPL game. The first time this happened was in 2022 when Jos Buttler scored a ton and Yuzvendra Chahal picked a 5-wicket haul for Rajasthan Royals.
