IPL 2023 Auction: Punjab Kings Re-Appoint Wasim Jaffer As Batting Coach Ahead Of IPL 2023

Punjab Kings‘ (PBKS) decision to release Mayank Aggarwal ahead of the IPL Auction 2023 has raised a lot of eyebrows. PBKS now has made a habit of making wholesale changes to the squad which can be risky as chopping and changing doesn’t work often.
PBKS now has a purse of 42.25 Crores which is a massive number. PBKS’s best season was way back in 2014 when they had made it to the Finals but since then it has been a struggle for the franchise. They haven’t been able to find a leader who takes the team into the knock-out stages on a regular basis.
Wasim Jaffer Appointed Batting Coach
The former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has been re-appointed as the batting coach of the franchise. He was the batting coach for the 2020 & 2021 editions and then later resigned from his post. It would be interesting to see how the team performs under a new coaching staff as Trevor Bayliss is the new head coach, Brad Haddin is the assistant coach, and Charl Langeveldt is the bowling coach.
Critical Season for PBKS
PBKS’ decision to make Shikhar Dhawan as the new skipper is quite surprising. The problem with PBKS’ over the years has been that they are not able to continue the winning momentum. The team has shown a lot of caliber and promise but they are failing in crucial junctions of the match due to which all of their hard work goes in vain. PBKS’ arsenal is their bowling as they have got Kagiso Rabada who can easily rattle any opponent on a given day.
PBKS need to apply fearless approach rather than getting into shell. It would be interesting to see which players come into the team as they have only 3 overseas slots remaining. All eyes would be on the finisher Shahrukh Khan who will have to make sure that he plays handy cameos rather than throwing away the wickets. PBKS needs to emphasize Indian players as every-time Jonny Bairstow won’t play a match-winning knock for the team.
