England Cricket Team’s dashing batter Jonny Bairstow has been missing from action since September 2022. Jonny Bairstow had a freak injury while playing golf where he slipped off & there were multiple fractures, a dislocated ankle & ligament damage where he missed T20 WC 2022, Pakistan & New Zealand Test series.

Jonny Bairstow is a part of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) setup for IPL 2023. Bairstow scored 253 runs in 11 matches where he scored 2 half-centuries with a strike rate of 144.57 in the previous IPL. With BCCI set to introduce home & away venues, the batters would be tested where we can expect competitive wickets.

Jonny Bairstow to miss IPL 2023

According to The Guardian, Jonny Bairstow is all set to miss the IPL 2023 and focus on the Ashes 2023 while recovering from his injury. He would resume his training in Yorkshire for Ashes 2023. Bairstow had surgery on his left leg. It is assumed that ECB & Head Coach Brendon McCullum won’t hurry Bairstow to the competitive cricket as in IPL 2023, we would witness a lot of doubleheaders & travelling where England’s summer season starts on 1st June where they are set to play a solitary Test match against Ireland & would serve as a preparation for Ashes 2023 which are set to schedule on 16th June.

Huge Blow for Punjab Kings (PBKS)

With IPL 2023 set to commence on 31st March, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise would be worried if Bairstow misses IPL as finding a like-for-like replacement would be quite tough at the 11th hour. PBKS haven’t been able to dominate IPL since 2014 when they reached the finals for the 1st time.

IPL franchises will now think twice before signing a player as there are chances that Ben Stokes would leave CSK in the middle of the championship for national duties. ECB earlier had made it clear to BCCI that all England players would be available for the entire season. It won’t be wrong to say that under the regime of England Head Coach Brendon McCullum, the board is again prioritizing Test Cricket.
