IPL 2023: IPL Franchise Owners Offering Multi-Million Pound Annual Deal To 6 English Players - Reports

In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Times London, it is learned that Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have offered multi-million contracts to as many as six English players. The franchise owners have asked them to quit international cricket and play with them in different T20 leagues across the globe.
The IPL owners have invested in various leagues in CPL (West Indies), SA20 (South Africa), ILT20 (UAE) Major League T20 in the US and reportedly will ply their trade in the Saudi T20 league. The reports didn’t reveal the name of franchises and the players in the deal.

“This development follows discussions among players’ unions around the world about the potential implications of 12-month franchise contracts, which would be a significant step towards the football model of elite players being primarily contracted to their team and released for international duty, rather than the other way around.,” Times Report quoted.

The reports also suggested that franchise owners will soon release the contract offers and it’s fair to say that with the growing advent of T20 leagues around the world, many players would be eager to accept the deal. Many players from various countries have decided to choose franchise cricket over international duties.

The reports also highlighted that franchise owners have already had discussions with Australian players related to the same and the contracts could be around 5 million. The reports said:
“Discussions have already taken place with a number of high-profile Australian players about full-time deals but this has now been extended to English players. Contracts could be worth upwards of GBP 2 million a year and even as high as GBP 5 million — more than five times the value of the highest England central contracts.”
It is also learned that English players can have partial contracts both with ECB or county and the IPL franchise, especially, the ones who play white-ball cricket.
