Former West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran became the most expensive wicketkeeper in IPL history after being sold to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping Rs 16 crore at the IPL mini-auction in Kochi on December 23. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis’ performances will define the LSG’s fortunes in the upcoming IPL season.

Nicholas Pooran struggled in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia, and he resigned as limited-overs captain after failing to qualify for the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage.

Pooran’s base price was Rs 2 crore, and Lucknow won the bidding war to sign the West Indies player. The southpaw scored 306 runs with an average of 38.25 and an impressive strike rate of 144.33 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2022.

LSG Broke The Entire Bank On Nicholas Pooran – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, the former Indian opener said that the limited availability of overseas middle-order batters in the auction helped the former West Indies captain attract high bids.

“Nicholas Pooran is their biggest purchase. They broke the entire bank on Nicholas Pooran. Their fortunes will solely depend on how they use Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis. They haven’t been able to use Marcus Stoinis well thus far. We will have to see how Nicholas Pooran plays because he might just hold the key to everything,” Aakash Chopra said.

“Nicholas Pooran is a perfect example of supply and demand. The last year was extremely ordinary but he was very expensive. But he has gone even more expensive this year, he has left his team’s captaincy as well. His stars are going down if you see his performances but if you see his price, you say wow,” he added.
