RCB had a terrific IPL 2022 where they reached the playoffs but lost in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Rajat Patidar was the biggest positive for RCB in the season where he scored 333 runs in 7 matches with a strike rate of 152.75. Rajat Patidar had got an India call-up for the South Africa ODI series following his exploits in the IPL and domestic cricket, but he couldn’t get a game.

RCB would be bolstered with the resurgence of the star batter Virat Kohli. RCB don’t have a good record in their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium where defending is very tough due to short boundaries & at the same time, the pitches are quite batting-friendly. RCB are due to play their 6 games at M Chinnaswamy stadium which could be quite decisive.

Rajat Patidar is doubtful for at least the first half of the upcoming season due to a heel injury, as per ESPNcricinfo. He suffered the injury before joining the RCB camp & currently is undergoing rehab in NCA at Bengaluru. Now Rajat Patidar will require NCA clearance to join the RCB camp. According to ESPNcricinfo, it is believed that Patidar would be out of action for 3 weeks and after that MRI scan will determine his participation in the second half of the IPL.

As per the same report, premier pacer Josh Hazlewood is also doubtful for the upcoming IPL. He is currently recovering from Achilles tendonitis.

Huge Blow for RCB

RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar & Director of Operations Mike Hesson would be worried as they don’t have a like-for-like replacement, especially an Indian batter. Finn Allen is considered to replace Rajat Patidar but Allen doesn’t have a significant experience of batting in the middle order, Anuj Rawat is also in the fray to bat at the No.3 position where he could be the surprise package for the teams.

RCB would be thinking of playing 3 all-rounders: Michael Bracewell, Glenn Maxwell & Wanindu Hasaranga as they can contribute in all the 3 facets of the game. The speedster Mohammed Siraj needs to play the role of senior pacer where his 4 overs would be quite decisive.
