England star Ben Stokes is all set to be part of the IPL auction 2023. The English all-rounder was not part of the last season. Now, he has decided to be part of IPL 2023 and will go under the hammer during the IPL auction 2023. Undoubtedly, Ben Stokes will be a sought-after player during the auction.

However, IPL auctions are quite unpredictable and nothing can be guaranteed about any player. A popular player can go unsold during the auction whereas a less-known player can grab a top deal. In this article, we shed light on 3 reasons why Ben Stones might go unsold in the IPL auction 2023.

3. Injury Scare

The first reason that franchises might shy away from bidding for Ben Stokes is his injury issues. Since Ben Stokes is an all-rounder and performs with both bat and the ball, his injury concerns are higher than other players.

For instance, the left-handed batsman got injured in the very first game of IPL 2021 and had to leave the tournament after the opening game itself. Hence, if a franchise grabs him in their squad and Stokes get injured midway through the tournament, it will be a big disadvantage for that team.

2. Doubts Over Participation

Ben Stokes is currently the England Test skipper. Hence, he has a lot of duty on his shoulders. Stokes also retired from the ODI format earlier this year as he wanted to reduce his workload. Being the England Test skipper, the all-rounder can change his decision to play in IPL 2023 if he has to serve national duty.

If he makes such a decision after the IPL 2023 auction, it will be a big issue for the team that picks him. Last season, Ben Stokes took a break from cricket for his mental health and did not participate in IPL 2022. Hence, doubts over his participation in the tournament might force the franchises to not bid for him.

1. Less IPL Presence in Last Few Seasons

Ben Stokes is absolutely one of the most expensive gems in international cricket. However, he has very less presence in the Indian Premier League so far. Especially in the last few seasons, Stokes has played very few games.

He was not part of IPL 2022. In the 2021 season, he played just 1 game. Back in the 2020 season, he only played 8 games as he arrived late for the tournament. Hence, the left-handed batter has had little presence in the Indian Premier League in the last few seasons and this might urge buyers to not pick him during the IPL auction 2023.
