The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) surprisingly bought the dashing batter, Kane Williamson, for a base price of 2 Crores. The right-handed batter had a forgettable IPL 2022 where he couldn’t make an impact. The Skipper Hardik Pandya would be pretty much happy as the team has got a proper middle order.
GT Head Coach Ashish Nehra before the auction had said that the team is targeting a fast bowler. GT bought the Irish speedster Joshua Little for 4.4 Crores which would be his maiden IPL season. The pacer got famous for picking up a hat trick in the T20 WC against New Zealand.
Vikram Solanki on Hardik Pandya
Vikram Solanki was having an interaction with the media and was asked about Hardik Pandya. “He has been an active part of the discussion and prior to that we have sat down and Hardik was aware of the type of the players we were targeting and he’s happy with it so far.” said Vikram Solanki.
“First and foremost Kane fits into the group because the personality he is and because of the character he is. His batting has been exquisite for a number of years. Form, you could ask for that but for a particular phase of time but you can see what he has achieved in the game, the experience he has and the quality which he brings in on field ones, the calm nature and the influence around the group.” he added.
Great Chance for Gujarat Titans (GT)
It won’t be wrong to say that the squad of GT looks threatening. The franchise would be well aware of the fact that only CSK has defended the Title that too way back in 2011. It would be interesting to see what kind of strategy GT applies as this time there would be away matches where the team would be tested.
As mentioned by Vikram Solanki, Kane Williamson brings in quality. The batter can also be a part of the leadership as he had taken SRH to the final in 2018 edition. Williamson needs to work on his strike rate as he consumes a lot of dot balls which hurts the team.
