The much-anticipated mini-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition will take place in Kochi on December 23. Former India cricketer Anil Kumble believes that the Punjab Kings (PBKS) will go for Australian all-rounder Cameron Green at the auction. Punjab had the second-highest purse of 32.2 crores, and they have nine slots to fill, including three foreign players.
The Punjab Kings failed to make it to the playoffs in the last four seasons. After poor performances, they made some changes in their squad, and skipper Mayank Agarwal was released ahead of this year’s auction, with Shikhar Dhawan replacing him as captain. Former World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss has been appointed as the coach in place of Anil Kumble.
They Will Certainly Look For An Overseas All-Rounder – Anil Kumble
In an interview with Geo Cinema, the former PBKS coach said that PBKS needed an overseas all-rounder after releasing Odion Smith. Kumble heaped praise on Green and said he has the ability to hit the deck and play big shots.
“Punjab Kings have let go of their overseas all-rounder in Odean Smith. So, they will certainly look for an overseas all-rounder. So, there is Cameron Green, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran.”
“In my view, they will go for Cameron Green because he gives you a bit of pace, he is tall, hits the deck hard, and can also bat in the top three. So that’s something I think Punjab will look to do. And they certainly need an overseas all-rounder.”
The 23-year-old is one of the biggest prospects on the auction list and can contribute in all three departments and add a lot of value to the team. He has established himself as a top-order batter and a good seam bowler who hits the deck hard with his tall frame.
