IPL Auction 2023: "I'll Be Watching On TV, Hopeful I Will Go Somewhere": Sam Curran Said Ahead Of The IPL Auction

England all-rounder Sam Curran is optimistic about his possibilities in the IPL auction on Friday but concedes that being in the same “bracket” as Ben Stokes and a few others may hamper his hopes.

The IPL auction will take hold in Kochi, and all-rounders like Stokes and Cameron Green from Australia, among others, are likely to garner big bids from many teams.

With a starting offer of Rs 2 crore, Curran, 24, has the opportunity to significantly increase his profits in the auction. The 24-year-old has declared that he will be watching the action on television.

“I’ve been in previous auctions (as well); you go in with your base price. I’ll be watching (the auction) on TV. On Friday morning, I guess, when your name comes up, you just say ‘keep the paddle up there’,” Curran said in a video posted by ‘The Telegraph’.

“Hope that I’ll go somewhere”: Sam Curran

Sam Curran, who was acquired by Punjab Kings for an astounding Rs 7.2 crore, the third-highest fee in the IPL 2019 auctions, expressed optimism about securing a lucrative contract.

“Firstly, you’ve got to get picked. I’ve got, obviously, hope that I’ll go somewhere. But I guess that’s one of those things (that) I’m in the same bracket as (Ben) Stokes and a few other all-rounders, who have come out and I guess they work in sets. So, anything can happen,”  Sam Curran added.

Curran was let go by Punjab Kings before to the 2020 season, but Chennai Super Kings eventually purchased the fast bowling all-around player for Rs 5.5 crore. Curran had a base price of Rs 1 crore.
