Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stand-in captain Virat Kohli has been sanctioned for maintaining a slow overrate during the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, April 23. Virat Kohli was handed a Rs 24 lakh fine as it was his second offence in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Virat Kohli guided the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 7-run win over the Rajasthan Royals in a thrilling encounter. The 34-year-old didn’t contribute with the bat as he was dismissed for first ball duck in the bowling of Trent Boult. However, he rotated his bowlers, in the end, to restrict the opposition to 182 runs while defending a par total of 190 runs.

The IPL released an official press note on the official statement, stating that Virat Kohli was fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow overrate. The statement added that it was the team’s second offence and the players in the playing XI, including the impact substitute have been slapped with a fine.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023,” said the league in its statement.

“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser,” it further said.

Earlier, Virat Kohli was fined 10% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against the Lucknow Super Giants. Faf du Plessis was captain, but he didn’t come to the field when the team was bowling due to an injury. If he maintains a slow overrate for the third time, he will be fined Rs 30 lakh and given a one-match ban.
The Delhi-born cricketer was named captain of the Bangalore-based franchise for the first time in the IPL 2023 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), with regular skipper Faf du Plessis unable to field due to an injury. Kohli led the last two matches of the Royal Challengers and helped the team gain four important points.
Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when the Royal Challengers Bangalore take on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 26. The Bangalore-based franchise is in fifth place in the 10-team points table with 8 points and a net run rate of -0.008.
