Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that ace batter Virat Kohli’s dream of winning the trophy might happen in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sanjay Manjrekar said that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a great chance to end their trophy drought in the world’s best T20 league.

Virat Kohli has been part of the Bangalore-based franchise since the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league in 2008. The 34-year-old was named captain of the franchise in 2013. The right-handed batter announced his resignation as the captain of the team before the start of the 2021 season, which was his last stint as leader of the team.

The Bangalore team reached the finals three times and finished as runners-up in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Faf du Plessis was named as captain of the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022. Plessis led the team to the playoffs, their best performance in the league since the 2016 edition. However, they failed to reach the final after losing to the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.

The Faf du Plessis-led team has been dealing with injuries in their camp before the start of the 16th edition of the IPL. Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood are doubtful for their tournament openers due to injuries, respectively, while Wanindu Hasaranga is unavailable due to his national duties. RCB will begin their campaign in IPL 2023 against the Mumbai Indians on April 2 in Bangalore.
