Meanwhile, the star England all-rounder entered the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore. Many predicted that he would break all the previous records and become the most expensive player of all time in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The predictions of the fans and experts turned out to be correct as Sam Curran did break all the records and became the most expensive player to be ever bought by a franchise at the IPL auction. He has also become the highest-paid cricketer in the history of the IPL, surpassing Virat Kohli and KL Rahul ( INR 17 crore). Also, the most expensive player bought at the IPL auction before Curran was Chris Morris for 16.25 by Rajasthan Royals.

Sam Curran had earlier represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was bought by PBKS for INR 7.2 crore in 2019 but was released after just one season, which allowed Chennai Super Kings to pick him ahead of the IPL 2020 for INR 5.50 crore.
