Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Sunrisers Hyderabad praised England batter Harry Brook for his match-winning prowess following his maiden Indian Premier League hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Brook was a costly purchase for the Hyderabad-based team, but he struggled to make an impression in his first few games. His breakthrough came on Friday, though, when he scored the first century of the 2023 IPL season in just 55 balls, giving his team a much-needed win.
Kumar praised Brook’s participation and emphasized how crucial such displays are to the team’s success in the league. As the IPL heats up in the following days, Brook will be trying to build on this momentum.
Kumar discussed gaining wickets early in the game and how he isn’t a fan of too many slower balls and variations.
“We just wanted to get wickets up front, but the way they scored in the 6th over, they were equal to us (powerplay score). I am not a big fan of too many slower balls or variations. You just got to bowl in the right areas. Try to bowl according to the batter and the dimensions,” said Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“We needed that type of innings from Harry Brook” – Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Speaking about Harry Brook’s performance, Bhuvneshwar Kumar noted that the squad needed an outing of this calibre from him and that having an English batter among the runners is a huge plus. Brook was moved up the food chain, according to Kumar, because of his ability to dismantle any opposition.
“Top class innings (from Harry Brook), we needed that type of innings from him. Having him among the runs is a big plus for us. He can take any team apart, that is why the management sent him to open the batting,” said Kumar.
Harry Brook made an impression in the 2023 Indian Premier League season, scoring 100 runs off just 55 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders. Brook’s innings were defined by his aggression and crisp hitting, as he hammered the Kolkata bowlers all over the ground.
