SRH vs PBKS: SRH innings:
Chasing 144 for their first win of IPL 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad began their innings with a new opening pair. Harry Brook, who flopped in the previous two games while batting in the middle order, came out to open with Mayank Agarwal. The move, however, did not pay off as the English batsman flopped again.

Arshdeep Singh clean-bowled him for 13 in the 4th over. Agarwal could not score big either and departed in the 9th over after scoring 21 off 20 balls. With SRH reeling at 45 for 2 in the 9th over, PBKS’ chances of winning the game did improve but Rahul Tripathi and captain Aiden Markram were quick to steady the ship and put their team in command.
The duo went on to share an unbeaten stand of 100 runs to take their team home. Tripathi remained unbeaten on 74 off 48 balls while Markram scored 37 off 21 balls.

Earlier in the game, Punjab Kings recovered from 88 for 9 to post a respectable total of 143 for 9 thanks to their talismanic skipper Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten knock of 99. Asked to bat first, Punjab Kings were off to a disastrous start as their in-form opener Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the very first ball of the match.
In the next over, Marco Jansen sent back Matthew Short to reduce PBKS to 10 for 2. PBKS lost another wicket inside the powerplay as Jansen dismissed Jitesh Sharma for 4 to leave the visitors reeling at 22 for 3. Dhawan and Sam Curran then steadied the ship with a 41-run stand.
Markande then broke the stand by dismissing Curran for 22 and it opened the floodgates. The leg-spinner went on to dismiss Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Chahar, and Nathan Ellis while Umran Malik accounted for Sikandar Raza and Harpreet Brar to reduce PBKS to 88 for 9 after 15 overs.

And when it looked like PBKS would not be able to touch the 100-run mark, Dhawan stood tall at his end and bailed his team out of trouble. He and Mohit Rathee shared an unbeaten stand of 55 runs in 30 balls for the last wicket. Rathee scored just 1 run off 2 balls during the stand as Dhawan took charge. Unfortunately for Dhawan, he just could not complete a well-deserved ton and finished his brilliant knock on 99.
