The veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made sensational comments about the Indian team management over the selection of Sanju Samson in the ODI team. Ravichandran Ashwin believes that Sanju Samson should be part of the India team for the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played at home later this year.

Sanju Samson last played an ODI match in the first match of the three-match series against New Zealand in 2022. The right-handed batter was dropped from the starting lineup for the second game. However, the selectors didn’t give him a chance when Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia.

We Should Start Trying Sanju Samson – Ravichandran Ashwin

In a video shared on his Youtube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin questioned why the Indian team management hasn’t backed Sanju Samson like other players, citing Wasim Jaffer’s remarks.

“We received many comments. Anyway, Wasim Jaffer has mentioned that we are backing many players, and in the same way, we should start trying Sanju Samson also. Even the fans are asking for his comeback. You are asking to back everyone. Why don’t we back Sanju Samson enough?” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

“I am not here to tell who should be backed or anything. I want India to win the World Cup. We should give all the positive vibes for that to happen. That is my thought process,” Ashwin added.

He played a few match-winning knocks in the middle order and proved his capabilities as a finisher. However, he didn’t get many continuous chances in Play XI after having a brilliant series against South Africa in 2022 at home.

Ravichandran Ashwin will be next seen in action for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 under Samson’s captaincy. The Royals will start their campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, April 2.
