Andre Russell pays tribute to MS Dhoni with a heartwarming post after CSK vs KKR clash

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star all-rounder Andre Russell paid tribute to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni after the 22nd game of the ongoing IPL 2024 in Chennai on April 8.

In the CSK vs KKR match, fans got to see a couple of Andre Russell-MS Dhoni moments. Dhoni, who is known for his exceptional wicket-keeping skills, left fans in disbelief when he missed a crucial catch by KKR’s explosive Andre Russell behind the stumps.

The incident took place during the 17th over of the KKR innings, when Russell was facing Mustafizur Rahman. As Russell unleashed a fierce shot, the ball nicked the edge of his bat, hurtling dangerously towards Dhoni at the packed MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Well, the former CSK skipper dived to his right, making contact with the ball with his glove, but much to the disappointment of the fans, he couldn't hold onto the catch, and Russell got the lifeline. However, after a couple of deliveries, Tushar Deshpande managed to get rid of the KKR star for 10.

In the second instance, Russell had to cover his ears when Dhoni came to bat, as the CSK fans could not keep calm, and the entire stadium echoed Dhoni's chants.

In the post, Russell and Dhoni can be seen sharing some heartwarming moments while walking back to the pavilion, while in another photo, CSK legend and KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir can be seen hugging each other with a broad smile on their faces. It was a rare scene that left fans surprised and happy at the same time.

Sharing Iyer’s Instagram post, Russell wrote in the caption, “I easily think this man is the most loved cricketer in the world.”

Coming back to the match, KKR posted 137/9 in their quota of 20 overs, with skipper Shreyas Iyer being the highest run scorer for them with 34 runs against CSK. For CSK, Mustafizur Rahman snared two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande each scalped three wickets.

Chasing the paltry target, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikawad (67*) took the side over the line in the 18th over as Chennai crushed Kolkata by 7 wickets at Chepauk Stadium on Monday.

Notably, CSK will next face the Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 14 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the ongoing IPL 2024. On the other hand, KKR will host the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 14 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the tournament.
