Big blow for Rajasthan Royals! Adam Zampa pulls out of the IPL 2024

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have suffered a big blow ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Star leg-spinner Adam Zampa, as per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, has pulled out of the upcoming 17th edition of the league, set to take place from Friday (22nd March).

Adam Zampa on the eve of the league has made himself unavailable, giving a headache to the Rajasthan Royals management. The leg-spinner decided so that he could be with his family after a hectic last few months. After the ICC World Cup 2023, he has been playing consistent cricket.

Adam Zampa featured in the white-ball series against India, West Indies, and New Zealand apart from the Big Bash League (BBL). He took the decision so that he can stay fresh for Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played just after the IPL in the United States of America and the Caribbean.

Adam Zampa played a decent role for the Rajasthan Royals in 2023. He played six games for the team last year. The leg-spinner picked eight wickets for the team at an average of 23.50 and an economy rate of 8.54. His best came in the game against Chennai Super Kings, when he picked 3/22.

Adam Zampa’s absence might not bother Rajasthan Royals much as they have two of the prime spinners of the Indian Cricket Team. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal will be featuring for the team in almost every game and there was less possibility of Zampa featuring.

Adam Zampa was retained by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He was acquired by the franchise for INR 1.5 crore. Him being unavailable for the upcoming season of the IPL was confirmed to the ESPNCricinfo by the leg-spinner’s manager.

Adam Zampa overall has played 20 games in the tournament and has picked 29 wickets in the four seasons that he has played. He has represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (then Royal Challengers Bangalore) and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant apart from Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Apart from Adam Zampa, Prasidh Krishna will also miss IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals

Apart from the unavailability of Adam Zampa, Rajasthan Royals also will be without the services of Prasidh Krishna. He has been ruled out of the league due to a quadriceps injury. The co-owner of Manoj Badale also expressed his concerns over the same.

He stated that:“We’re without Prasidh Krishna again this season and that’s tough as a franchise, when you’ve bet 7-8% of your entire player spend on a particular player and then that player is unavailable for the whole tournament, that hurts you. The medical side is an area where we’re trying to work much harder.”

The franchise is yet to announce replacements for Adam Zampa and Prasidh Krishna. Rajasthan Royals will open their campaign in the IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday (24th March). Since the last two seasons, they have been performing pretty well and reached the finals in the 2022 edition. They would be hoping to achieve the glory this time around.
