Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson lauded Lucknow Super Giants’ emerging pace bowler for his remarkable performance in the IPL 2024 match. Shane Watson emphasized Mayank Yadav’s pace and its impact on top-class batsmen like Jonny Bairstow.

Mayank Yadav replaced Yash Thakur in LSG’s playing XI for the match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Lucknow on Saturday, March 30. The right-arm pacer troubled PBKS batters with his pace in the Lucknow team’s 21-run victory at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

The 21-year-old dismissed Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma in his four-over spell. He also bowled the season’s fastest delivery, clocking 155.8 kph. Mayank Yadav was named ‘Player of the Match’ in his debut match in the prestigious tournament.

Every Team Wants To Have Mayank Yadav – Shane Watson

Speaking to Jio Cinema, Shane Watson emphasized that every team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) wants to unearth such talents. Watson expressed admiration for Mayank Yadav‘s bowling prowess, describing his deliveries as thunderbolts.

“Mayank, wow, that’s what every team wants to discover. You bowl at that pace and get world-class batters jumping around. Jonny Bairstow after he faced one or two bowls, he really didn’t have to face too much, he started moving around. It was great to watch those thunderbolts,” Watson said.

Mayank entered the bowling attack in the 10th over of the Punjab Kings’ innings. At that point, the visitors had a comfortable position with all wickets intact and a required run rate just above 10. Yadav turned the tide for his team by delivering four consecutive overs.

Mayank started his spell with a delivery at 147.1 kmph but gave away 10 runs in the opening over. However, he made a breakthrough by dismissing Bairstow, who had scored 42 runs off 29 balls, ending the 102-run opening partnership of PBKS. Mayank continued his impact by taking two more wickets in subsequent overs.

Good All-Round Performance From LSG – Shane Watson

Shane Watson praised the impressive batting display by Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya of LSG. He highlighted the team’s aggressive approach from the beginning, despite the early dismissal of KL Rahul.

“That was a really good all-round performance from LSG. You could see the intent that LSG had from the very first ball with Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul. KL Rahul might have got out for just 15 runs, but that came in just 8 balls, that is something that I want to see,” Watson further said.

“He might be disappointed because his numbers are not near the orange cap right now, but that’s what his team needed to do. And they followed that all the way through with Nicholas Pooran, and then to finish off with Krunal Pandya, who got them up to 199,” he concluded.

Quinton de Kock provided a solid start with a rapid 54 off 38 balls, while Nicholas Pooran, leading in the absence of the captain, accelerated the innings with a dynamic 42 off 21 balls.

Krunal Pandya’s explosive knock, featuring two sixes and four boundaries, added valuable momentum, resulting in a total of 199 runs, the highest total at the Ekana Stadium.

The Lucknow team, currently occupying fifth place in the standings, will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday, April 2.
