Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Kane Williamson disclosed that his teammate David Miller will be absent from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for two weeks. Kane Williamson mentioned that it's unfortunate to lose David Miller's services in the ongoing prestigious tournament.
David Miller was absent from the match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, April 4. The South African batter was replaced by Kane Williamson, who had not been part of the team's playing XI in the first three matches of the event.
The star New Zealand batter scored 26 runs off 22 deliveries, including four boundaries. However, the 33-year-old was dismissed by Harpreet Brar in the ninth over. He added 40 runs in a partnership of 33 balls with captain Shubman Gill for the second wicket during the recent match.
Williamson was roped in by Gujarat for Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2023 auction. However, he played just one match for GT last year, where he sustained a knee injury while fielding during the team's opening contest against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which ruled him out of the remainder of the season.
Shame To Lose David Miller For A Week Or Two - Kane Williamson
"Nice to be out there with the guys. A shame to lose David (Miller) for a week or two," Williamson said in the mid-innings show.
Miller has played a crucial role for the Titans since joining the franchise in 2022. The left-handed batsman showcased his skill in recent IPL 2024 matches. He scored a quick-fire 21 from 16 balls against the Chennai Super Kings and delivered an explosive innings of 44 runs from 27 deliveries against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Shubman Gill Is A Fantastic Player - Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson deemed the team's total of 199 against Punjab competitive. Williamson praised Shubman Gill's leadership and skills, emphasizing continuous improvement.
"It (199) is a reasonably competitive total. Hopefully, we'll get the job done. There's help with the new ball. It'll be important for us to make the full use of it. Shubman (Gill) is a fantastic player. He leads by example. He'll keep getting better. Hopefully, there'll be help for the spinners. It's all about hitting the right areas," Williamson added.
Gill scored an unbeaten 89 off 48 deliveries, helping the Gujarat Titans set a formidable 200-run target. He started with 31 runs off 22 balls but accelerated, smashing 58 runs off his final 26 deliveries. However, despite his impressive performance, the visitors chased down the target with three wickets and a ball to spare.
Gujarat won two consecutive matches at home before suffering a loss to the Punjab Kings. They defeated Mumbai and Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. They will hope to secure a win in their next match against the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Sunday, April 7.
