Former Indian chief selector taken aback by Virat Kohli

Former India opener and selector Kris Srikkanth heaped praises on Virat Kohli after the RCB opener drove his team to victory in the IPL 2024 clash against Punjab Kings. Virat Kohli won the player of the match award after leading RCB to their first victory of IPL 2024.

After watching Virat Kohli’s knock, cricketer-turned-commentator Kris Srikkant was full of praises for the RCB opener. Srikkanth hailed Kohli’s rhythm and fitness on the crease. Batting as an opener, Kohli shattered 77 runs off 49 balls to help the team chase down 177 at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Notably, RCB lost three crucial top-order batters cheaply as Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell lost their wickets for just 3 runs. However, Kohli kept his wicket on one end to accelerate the scoreboard.

Kris Srikkanth hails Virat Kohli

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Krish Srikkanth hailed Virat Kohli for his wonderful knock in the RCB vs PBKS clash. The former India opener was astonished by Kohli’s rhythm while batting.

“The way Virat (Kohli) finds his rhythm, the way he plays authentic cricketing shots, there is no risk at all. To try and change the bowler’s length, he steps out of the crease. He then plays a variety of shots”, the 64-year-old said.

Look at the way he runs between the wickets: Srikkant on Kohli 

Srikkanth, who represented Team India from 1981 to 1992, also lauded the RCB legend for his fitness on the crease. He said Kohli is very quick while running between the wickets even at this age.

“Look at the way he runs between the wickets, that too at this age. He is converting ones into twos and twos into threes. The team gained about 15-20 runs because of this, which ultimately proved to be very useful for them. Hats off to Virat Kohli. Why wouldn’t you want to call yourself King? You are King of Kings,” he added.

Virat Kohli won the POTM award for his 77-run knock

Virat Kohli won his first player-of-the-match trophy after leading RCB to a stunning 4-wicket victory against Punjab Kings. The right-handed batter slammed 11 fours and 2 sixes during his knock. Kohli stayed on the crease till the 16th over after opening the batting.

Notably, Dinesh Karthik also played a innings in the final 4 overs after Kohli lost his wicket. The RCB wicketkeeper slammed an unbeaten 28 off 10 deliveries to snatch victory for the final in the final over. With 1 win in 2 games, RCB has 2 points. Earlier, they lost to CSK by 6 wickets in the tournament opener. RCB will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at home.
