Veteran Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Piyush Chawla opened up about the skipper Hardik Pandya getting booed by fans in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He stated that they couldn’t control the crowd but admitted that their captain was not focusing on the crowd.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya hasn’t been getting the support he would’ve wanted from the crowd in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The homecoming for him to Mumbai Indians hasn’t been great as fans have not welcomed him at all.

This is because Hardik Pandya has taken over the leadership of Mumbai Indians from Rohit Sharma. This didn’t go well with many as they expected the franchise and the all-rounder to treat Rohit in the way they treated him. Especially, after the senior opener guided the team to the five IPL titles.

Hardik Pandya was treated with boos in both the games Mumbai Indians played so far in the IPL. As the all-rounder came for a toss, fans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad didn’t support him and what was heard was boos.

However, this hasn’t been the only thing. During the game as well, Hardik Pandya has been at the receiving end of “Rohit Rohit” chants. The all-rounder has tried his best to ignore that but what’s worse for him is, he failed to make an impact with both bat and ball in two games.

Apart from this, Hardik Pandya has come under scanner as a captain of the team as well. The all-rounder has made some tactical errors in both the games against Gujarat Titans and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians have faced losses in both games and are at the bottom of the points table.

Mumbai Indians are now all set to face Rajasthan Royals in their home ground at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match between the teams will take place on 1st April (Monday) and it won’t be a surprise, if Hardik Pandya receives more hate from the fans, especially with the craze of Rohit Sharma in Mumbai.

The way Hardik Pandya has taken it he is doing his bit and not thinking about the crowd – Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla talked about all the hate Hardik Pandya is getting from the fans. He stated that spectator behavior is beyond their control. He further hoped that loyal Mumbai Indians would come to support them at Wankhede Stadium. Speaking to Sportstar, he explained:

“You can’t really help. You can’t control the crowd. The way Hardik has taken it he is doing his bit and not thinking about the crowd.

“Spectator behaviour is beyond our control but I am hoping that the loyal Mumbai Indians fans will come to Wankhede and support us.”

Hardik Pandya would be hoping to silence all his critics with his performances with bat and ball in the next game against Rajasthan Royals. He so far hasn’t been able to make the mark but with the kind of ability he has, it won’t be long before he returns to form.
