'Having Gautam Gambhir in dugout makes...' - Abhishek Nayar reveals KKR legend's reality

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has hailed Gautam Gambhir after the team's magnificent start in IPL 2024. Nayar also said having Gautam Gambhir in the dugout with players makes a huge difference.

As a mentor, Gautam Gambhir has shown glimpses of his magical leadership for KKR in IPL 2024. After the first two weeks, the Shreyas Iyer-led side has looked like the most dominant team. Kolkata Knight Riders are unbeaten in IPL 2024 after three games.

KKR outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 runs in the opening game in a thrilling clash. Later, the two-time champions outplayed Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 7 wickets and Delhi Capitals by 106 runs. KKR's last two games were one-sided affairs where they dominated the opposition in every department.

Having Gautam Gambhir makes a huge difference- Abhishek Nayar

Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to face defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their next match of IPL 2024 on Monday, April 8. During the pre-match press conference of the CSK vs KKR clash, KKR's Assistant Coach Abhishek Nayar heaped praises on mentor Gautam Gambhir.

“There is no substitute for experience or a captain who has won two IPL championships with a franchise. Regardless as a mentor or on the field, having GG in the dugout makes a big difference and is a big boost for the players”, said Nayar.

He also noted how players like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have improved under Gautam Gambhir's guidance. Notably, Narine has helped KKR to get quickfire starts in IPL 2024. On the other hand, Andre Russell has executed fantastic finishes in the lower order.

"Players who have played under him, like Sunny (Sunil Narine) and (Andre) Russell, you can see the difference, with Sunny scoring runs as an opener. So, all of it matters,” he added.

Gautam Gambhir’s work ethic has always stood out Abhishek Nayar

Abhishek Nayar also hailed Gautam Gambhir’s work ethic and his attitude to chase his dreams with his hard work.

“His work ethic, besides skill sets, the willingness to work hard matters because that is a sort of talent that not everyone possesses. Skill is something that you can develop if you have the knack of working hard. It is something that has always stood out with him for some years- his attitude to go, get it, get better, and chase his dreams,” concluded Nayar, who played 60 IPL games from 2008 to 2014 seasons.

Meanwhile, with their unbeaten run, KKR grabs the second spot in the IPL 2024 points table with 6 points. They follow Rajasthan Royals on the list, who enjoy the peak position with 4 wins out of 4. Kolkata faced a big challenge in the next game vs CSK in Chennai.

The CSK vs KKR clash takes place at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK has lost 2 games and won 2 out of 4 in IPL 2024. However, they won both of their games at home in Chennai.
