All eyes were on Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians locked horns against Rajasthan Royals on Monday (April 1) in their first home game of the ongoing IPL 2024.

The right-handed batsman was playing an IPL game at the Wankhede Stadium as a non-captain for the first time in over a decade. Rohit Sharma led MI from 2013 to 2023 before being sacked and replaced by allrounder Hardik Pandya. Unsurprisingly, expectations were sky high from the former MI captain.

However, the India skipper failed to live up to the expectations and was out for a golden duck. Up against his former IPL teammate Trent Boult, Rohit Sharma once again showed that he struggles against left-arm pacers.

On the fifth ball of the over, Boult bowled an angled delivery that was going away and Rohit Sharma poked at it and ended up edging the ball behind the stumps where Sanju Samson took a fine catch. With Rohit Sharma falling for a duck, few fans were quick to have some fun at his expense.

Here are some of the reactions to Rohit Sharma’s dismissal for a golden duck:

Talking about the game, RR are in the driver’s seat after making a solid start with the ball. Boult dismissed Rohit Sharma as well as Naman Dhir for golden ducks in the very first over to reduce his former team to 1 for 2. In the third over, he struck once again and dismissed Dewald Brevis for a golden duck as well to leave Mumbai Indians reeling at 14 for 3.

Ishan Kishan played a handful of big shots but did not last long. He was dismissed by Nandre Burger for 16. At the time of writing this report, MI were on 54 for 4 in the seventh over with captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma in the middle.

The five-time IPL champions are eyeing their first win of the season. They began their campaign under new captain with a loss against Gujarat Titans. They lost their second game against Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. On the other hand, the Royals have won both of their first two games.
