The Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is likely to kick start from 22nd March. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed the development while speaking to IANS on Tuesday (20th February).
There have been a lot of speculations about the commencement of the league because the tournament will clash with the general elections in India. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ensured that they will be making every possible effort to stage IPL 2024 in India.
Arun Dhumal revealed that BCCI is planning to start the league on 22nd March. He recently stated that the governing body would be working with the government of India to finalize the dates for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Planning to start IPL 2024 from March 22,” said League Chairman Arun Dhumal, as quoted by IANS.
It was learned as per the reports in Cricbuzz that IPL 2024 will begin from 22nd March and will end on May 26. The tournament will played just ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 and therefore it will serve as a great preparation for all the teams.
Recently media report emerged that BCCI is planning to announce the schedule of IPL in phases just like it took place in 2019. A source in the governing body said that they are in discussion with the Home Ministry and Election Commission related to the dates.
“We have been discussing internally and have more or less figured out the schedule but a final announcement is likely to happen the moment we get clarity and necessary clearances from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule.
“The schedule will be announced in phases. Like it happened in 2019. For the first few games of each team, we will release the schedule soon and then we get more clarity on the polling schedule and other important dates, we will announce the remainder,” he told News 18.
We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced – Arun Dhumal on IPL 2024
Arun Dhumal recently while providing an update about the IPL said that BCCI is waiting for the Government to announce the schedule of the selection. He mentioned that only after that they will be revealing the schedule. He expressed:
“We will work with the Indian government, agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly…like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way.”
If the IPL 2024 will commence from 22nd March then it will be just after the ongoing Test series against England. Therefore Indian players will be getting very little time to prepare for the league. The Test series will conclude on 11th March.
The upcoming edition of the IPL is expected to be the cracker of a season. All the teams have some quality players in the ranks and with a spot in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup Cup for grabs, all the attention will be on young players. Chennai Super Kings are defending Champions and would be eager to lift their 6th title.
