IPL Points Table 2024: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After CSK vs RCB, Match 1

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), on Friday (March 22), thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets in the first game of IPL 2024 to open their account in the IPL points table.
Chasing 174, the reigning champions crossed the finishing line with eight balls remaining. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra added 38 runs for the first wicket before the former departed for 15. Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane then shared a 33-run stand for the second wicket. Karn Sharma broke the stand by dismissing Ravindra for 37.
The likes of Rahane (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) got the starts but they failed to convert them into big scores either as CSK found themselves reeling at 110 for 4 in the 13th over. However, Shivam Dube (34*) and Ravindra Jadeja (25*) shared an unbeaten stand of 66 runs to take their team home in the 19th over.
Earlier in the game, RCB posted a challenging total of 173 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Faf du Plessis looked in good touch and hit seven fours inside the first four overs before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman for 35. In the same over, the Bangladesh pacer dismissed Rajat Patidar for a duck.

In the following over, Deepak Chahar joined the party as well by sending back Glenn Maxwell for a duck to leave RCB reeling at 42 for 3 from 41 for no loss. It was followed by a 35-run stand between Virat Kohli and Cameron Green before Mustafizur struck twice in an over again to send back both the batters and reduce RCB to 78 for 5.
With RCB in deep trouble, Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik came to their rescue. The duo shared a brilliant 96-run stand for the sixth wicket to power their team to a competitive total. Rawat scored 48 off just 25 balls before being run out on the final ball of the innings.
On the other hand, Karthik scored an unbeaten 38 off 26 balls. For CSK, debutant Mustafizur picked up 4 wickets for 29 runs.

Thanks to the win, CSK have opened their account in the IPL points table while RCB will have to wait for at least one more game to do so.
