Former BCCI selection committee chairman MSK Prasad shared insights on Mayank Yadav's potential inclusion in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. MSK Prasad highlighted Mayank Yadav's impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Mayank Yadav has attracted attention due to his exceptional bowling performances in the IPL 2024. The 21-year-old has impressed with his formidable pace and outstanding accuracy, troubling even top batters. He has consistently bowled around 150 kmph in the tournament.
Mayank Yadav Secured Player of the Match in His First Two IPL Outings
The young bowler made his IPL debut against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), where he clocked an impressive speed of 155.8 kmph. He picked up three wickets for 27 runs in the Lucknow Super Giants' 21-run victory. He was awarded the 'Player of the Match' accolade for his impressive spell.
The Delhi-born player secured remarkable figures of 3/14 in his second match. He dismantled Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) batting order, earning the second Player of the Match award. He holds the record for the fastest delivery in the IPL 2024, reaching an astounding 156.7 kmph.
After the match, RCB captain Faf du Plessis praised Mayank's exceptional performance, particularly highlighting his impressive pace and remarkable control. Du Plessis emphasized Mayank's precise bowling lines, lengths, and relentless pressure on the batters throughout the match.
Mayank Yadav Can Absorb Pressure - MSK Prasad
In a conversation with Revsportz, MSK Prasad suggested that Mayank Yadav could serve as India's "third seamer" for the T20 World Cup, especially in light of Mohammed Shami's injury. Prasad highlighted Yadav's ability to handle pressure effectively as a key factor in his favor.
"Had it been some other format, probably I would have thought differently. I would have taken a call only after watching him for a couple of bilateral series. But IPL is in itself a mega platform where you can showcase your talent because every game involves pressure," MSK Prasad told Revsportz.
"Mayank is someone who has shown he can absorb pressure and bowl consistently at a good line. He has already troubled the best of the lot with his pace. If they are not being able to bring the bat down against the pace, he has been generating I think he will be handy."
"And looking at the Indian bowling, especially with Shami now being ruled out, the selectors must be looking for a third seamer after Bumrah and Siraj. Someone with that kind of a pace and accuracy, deserves a place in the T20 World Cup squad."
The young pacer suffered a side strain during the recent match, which forced him to leave the field after bowling just one over. Despite his absence in the match against the Gujarat Titans (GT), the Lucknow-based franchise secured their third victory of the ongoing tournament.
Mayank Yadav is expected to return to the line-up for the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, April 12.
