The stage is set for a blockbuster IPL 2024 showdown between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 14.
The excitement is high for the thrilling encounter between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium, thanks to their rich history in the IPL. Adding to the anticipation of the MI vs CSK face-off, India and Rajasthan Royals (RR) off-spinner R Ashwin dropped a bombshell.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared some insight scoop from Mumbai Indians’ (MI) ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The off-spinner revealed that the MI has been regularly practicing chasing targets over 250 runs in their training matches, showcasing their formidable batting prowess.

Ashwin also shed light on the unique challenges posed by the Wankhede pitch, highlighting the significant swing early in the innings. He pointed out that bowling during the first three overs of the powerplay could give an advantage to bowlers since batters are still adapting to the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium.
However, as the match progresses and batters settle in, the swing diminishes, making it crucial for teams to capitalize on the initial overs. Ashwin also noted how MI strategically deploys Bumrah as a defensive asset towards the end of the powerplay.
R Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel: “I was talking to Bumrah after my match with them, and he said it was a bloodbath here. The MI team is chasing more than 250 or more in their practice matches. A 250 chase is normal, and apparently, they chased 268 last year.
They also scored 230 plus versus DC, which Delhi won by a mere margin of 20 runs. So that is something that has to be kept in mind. The ball swings quite hard at Wankhede and bowling the first three overs in the powerplay is quite easier.”
Ashwin added, “This is because the ball will swing and the batter will still be setting up. If you are somewhere around 20/0 in 3 overs. So, you will have 10 wickets in hand and the second half of the powerplay is a bloodbath period. After you have played a bit, the swing will stop to some extent. MI uses Bumrah like a defensive weapon after this.”
CSK and MI both are in great form in the IPL 2024
Speaking about Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) standing in the ongoing IPL 2024, Chennai is doing a great job under the new skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, in the tournament. CSK has won three of their five games in the ongoing IPL 2024 so far and is presently sitting in the third spot in the points table.
On the other hand, MI had a terrible start to the IPL 2024 campaign under their new skipper, Hardik Pandya, losing three games on a trot. However, MI somehow managed to return to winning track and won back-to-back matches in the tournament.
They are now placed in the 7th spot in the IPL 2024 points table and will look to extend their winning streak by outsmarting CSK at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium, on Sunday.
