Compliments and Virat Kohli go hand in hand just like defeats in World Cup knock-outs and the Indian team. And somehow when it comes to complimenting Kohli, its has become a routine for former England batsman Kevin Pietersen to always come forward and say bright things about his former RCB teammate. This time, Pietersen praised the batting stalwart for changing the face of fitness within the Indian cricketing fraternity.
While speaking to Star Sports yesterday after RCB defeated the Punjab Kings by 4-wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, Pietersen made this claim. He said that it was Virat Kohli who brought seriousness among the youngsters to gain full fitness and also turned the Indian cricketers into “out and out athletes”.
We all know of the sacrifices that Virat Kohli has had to make in his career and that’s why his fitness at the age of 36 is just like to that of a 26-27-year-old guy who is at his peak.
Pietersen says Virat Kohli walked the talk
Kevin Pietersen was doing commentary during the time Virat Kohli was batting in the 2nd innings last night and also scored his 51st half-century. Upon seeing him become the second most fifty scorer in IPL history, Pietersen thanked Kohli for his contribution towards fitness and for actually walking the talk.
“One of the things that he has done for Indian cricket is he has turned Indian cricketers into athletes, out and out athletes, and while doing so, he’s not just talked the talk. He has walked the walk, and you can see that,” Pietersen said via Star Sports.
The 42-year-old then shed light on the sacrifices that Virat Kohli had to make in order to be able to walk the talk. Pietersen observed the way Kohli runs in the middle and highlighted his behind the scene works like following a strict diet, remaining consistent with a training regime. That’s something that everyone admires about the Delhi-born batter and all of those that play under him, actually idolize him for that reason.
“When he is running between the wickets, his full commitment, energy and desire is to be the best and he is the best. That starts before the field, that starts with diet, the energy he puts in the gym, with the sacrifices that he has made to walk the walk because when you talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. That’s what all the other players who have played under you are following you, watch you,” Pietersen concluded.
Chinnaswamy awaiting for the Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir clash
Meanwhile, after registering their maiden victory, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will welcome Kolkata Knight Riders in their next home game on March 29th, Friday. This fixture could see another chapter being added in the rivalry between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir who were into it last season as well when the latter was mentoring Lucknow Super Giants.
Both the teams are high on confidence as the registered their first wins by playing out a thriller and RCB Vs KKR is going to be nothing less than a spectacle.
