KKR and Rajasthan Royals announce replacements for Prasidh Krishna and Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have announced the replacement for Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Prasidh Krishna respectively. Both players have been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). Earlier this month, the BCCI confirmed that Prasidh Krishna won’t be participating in IPL 2024 after undergoing surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon.

The board further stated that the bowler would resume his rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. This is the second IPL season in a row that Prasidh Krishna has missed due to injury. He missed the entire IPL 2023 as well due to an injury. In IPL 2022, he picked up 19 wickets to help Rajasthan Royals qualify for the final for the first time since 2008.

Replacement named for Prasidh Krishna and Mujeeb Ur Rahman:

With Prasidh Krishna sidelined, RR have roped in South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj as his replacement. An experienced spinner, Maharaj is yet to play in the IPL. So far, he has played 27 T20Is, 44 ODIs, and 50 Tests and has taken 237 wickets in international cricket. He has also picked up 130 wickets in 130 T20s.

“RR have brought him on board for his base price of INR 50 Lac,” stated the media release from the IPL.

On the other hand, KKR have replaced Mujeeb Ur Rahman with his compatriot Allah Ghazanfar. Mujeeb is sidelined with a sprain in his right phalanx. He has not played a game since January. In the last auction, KKR had bought him at his base price of Rs 2 crores.

Mujeeb has not played in the IPL since 2021 despite being one of the leading T20 spinners in the world. He made his debut in the IPL in 2018 for Punjab Kings. In his maiden IPL season, he picked up 14 wickets in 11 games while maintaining an economy rate of less than 7.

He has been replaced by Allah Ghazanfar in the KKR squad. Ghazanfar has played 3 T20s and 6 List A matches so far. KKR has signed him up for his base price of INR 20 Lac.
