Eden Gardens is all set to host the KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 match on Saturday, March 23. The match starts at 08:00 pm IST. The venue hosts only one home game for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first leg of IPL 2024. 

KKR finished seventh last season while SRH finished last. Both these teams have overhauled their squad and added some key players to their squad. Two Australians Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have joined the Knight Riders and Sunrisers respectively. 

Pat Cummins with all his success as international captain last year was named the captain of the side as well. He is up against his former franchise for ho he played IPL 2021 and 2022. 

SRH added six players to their ranks namely Travis Head (Rs. 6.80 crores), Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs. 1.5 crores), Pat Cummins (Rs. 20.50 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (Rs. 1.60 crore), Akash Singh (Rs. 20 lakhs), Jhathavedh Subramanyan (Rs. 20 lakhs). In the process, they spend nearly 26 crores on just two players. 

They have a big pool of overseas players to choose from which will be a challenge. Meanwhile, Waninddu Hasaranga will miss the first three games for STH due to his international commitments with Sri Lanka. He came out of his Test retirement to play the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. His availability for the fourth game is still not confirmed. 

There are no availability concerns with KKR as such. Two of their overseas players Jason Roy and Gus Atkinson pulled out of IPL 2024. They were replaced by Phil Salt and Dusmantha Chameera respectively. Salt has already joined the franchise and Chameera will join the squad soon.

Shreyas Iyer’s lower back injury is a bigger concern for the management. Though he has been declared fit to play, he has been advised not to stretch too much forward by a spine specialist from Mumbai. He recently played in the Ranji Trophy final for Mumbai. He scored runs but did not take the field for the last two days.

The weather conditions on March 23 Saturday, will be around 33 degrees in the daytime. There will be hazy sunshine and humid conditions. The conditions will be consistent in the afternoon around 33 degrees. It will drop down to around 27 degrees in the evening. The humidity is expected to be around 82 degrees which means players are expected to sweat a lot. There is no chance of rain in the evening.

Pitch Analysis

Over the years, the pitch at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata was a high-scoring wicket. 200-plus totals were posted with consistent success and nearly chased down as well. However, with the arrival of Gautam Gambhir, KKR is expected to go back to the spin-friendly tracks that were laid out under Gambhir’a captaincy. He wants to make use of his spin bowling group. The Eden Gardens has always been a fast outfield. Scores around 150-170 might be winning totals this season at the venue.
