KL Rahul‘s injury has become a big concern for the Indian team as well as his IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants. The batsman suffered a quadricep strain while playing in the first Test against England last month and it was expected that he would recover quickly.

The initial prognosis done by BCCI medical staff at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru suggested that he would be fit in time for the third Test in Rajkot. However, he missed the third Test as well although the BCCI stated that the batsman is close to regaining full fitness, stating in its media release: “Mr. Rahul has reached 90 percent of match fitness and is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.”

With the BCCI medical team making it clear that the injury sustained by KL Rahul was not serious, it was expected that the batsman would at least be ahead of the fourth Test. However, he missed the fourth Test and is now doubtful for the fifth game as well.

Will KL Rahul miss IPL 2024?

The latest reports suggest that KL Rahul has now traveled to London to consult a specialist as he continues to feel stiffness in his right quadriceps. He had to undergo surgery for the same issue last year and was sidelined for months.

With the injury now looking serious at the moment, there are apprehensions that KL Rahul might miss a good number of matches in IPL 2024. However, ESPNcricinfo has reported that Lucknow Super Giants are optimistic about their captain’s availability for the competition, scheduled to begin on March 22. The Lucknow-based outfit is scheduled to begin its campaign on March 24 against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.

KL Rahul had to miss a good number of games during the last IPL season too after suffering the same injury while fielding in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played nine games in IPL 2023 and scored 274 runs with the help of a couple of half-centuries.
