Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul has been declared fit for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. As per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that the keeper-batter will be joining the team in the next two days.

The reports claimed that KL Rahul has been given a fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. But the BCCI has advised him to not keep wickets in the initial stages of the tournament and play only as a specialist batter, which puts his T20 World Cup selection in jeopardy.

However, after a few games, KL Rahul can reportedly keep wickets. This is because of the precautionary measure with all the international assignments around the corner. In case, Rahul is unable to don the wicket-keeping gloves, he might not be considered for the T20 World Cup 2024 as India would look for other available options.

A source close to Indian Express confirmed the development about the Lucknow Super Giants skipper. He stated that batter is fit and revealed that KL Rahul took injections in his quadriceps. Speaking to Indian Express, he stated:

“He is fit and can join the IPL franchise in the coming days. He suffered pain in the quadriceps and got an injection too. He went through his rehabilitation and the NCA has now declared him fit. However, he has been advised not to take on the wicket-keeping role immediately.”

KL Rahul suffered a quadriceps injury during the Test series against England. During the first game of the series, he experienced pain and then was ruled out of the entire series. The batter put in hard yards at the NCA and it was expected that he would return in the later half of the series.

BCCI claimed that KL Rahul had gained 90 percent match fitness and said that he is under the supervision of the BCCI medical Team. But they later decided to consult a specialist in England. The keeper-batter then saw an expert abroad about his issue.

The upcoming IPL 2024 will be extremely important for KL Rahul in the context of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He hasn’t been in contention for the T20Is but a good season can earn him a spot back in the team for the World Cup.

Apart from KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer also gets fitness clearance

The reports also claimed that Shreyas Iyer has also got fitness clearance from the doctors. He suffered back pain in the last two days of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy finals and didn’t take the field as well. There were a lot of speculations about his availability for the league.

Shreyas Iyer reportedly has been advised that he can’t lunge too much while playing the forward defense as this could aggravate his injury. The batter recently joined the Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2024.

The reports also claimed that Shreyas Iyer also visited a spine specialist in Mumbai after consultation with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore. It is learned that the doctor has declared him fit to play with the precaution that Shreyas Iyer needs to be cautious while stretching his leg.

The IPL 2023 will begin from 22nd March. The first match will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings
