Virat Kohli, on Saturday (April 6), scored a brilliant century to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru post a competitive total against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

He became the first batsman to score a century in the ongoing season of the IPL. The former India skipper opened the batting with Faf du Plessis and eventually remained unbeaten on 113 runs. Virat Kohli's knock came off 72 balls and was studded with 12 fours and 4 sixes.

After reaching the half-century in 39 balls, it took Virat Kohli 67 balls to complete his century. It is his eighth century in the IPL and has helped him further extend his record of most centuries in the competition. He and du Plessis shared a big stand of 125 runs for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal for 44.

The likes of Glenn Maxwell (1) and Saurav Chauhan (9) failed to get going but Virat Kohli stood firm at one end and remained till the end to propel RCB to a competitive total of 183/3 in the allotted 20 overs.

Virat Kohli on his batting:

Speaking at the end of the innings, Virat Kohli opened up on his batting. The former RCB captain started by saying that the pitch is not as easy to bat on as it looks like. He further said that he wanted to bat till the end after the dismissal of his opening partner Faf du Plessis. He also insisted that the total would be effective on the pitch.

The wicket looks quite different from the outside. It feels like it's flat, but the ball is holding up in the pitch, that's when you realise the pace changes. One of us (Virat or Faf) had to bat till the end. I feel this total is effective on this pitch. I am not coming in with any premeditation," said Virat Kohli.

"I knew I couldn't get over aggressive, just that I had to keep the bowlers guessing. It's just experience and maturity of playing the conditions. Even if there's dew, the surface is rough and dry, won't be easy for the batters. I couldn't get under the ball against Ashwin. Couldn't slog towards mid-wicket, so had to target straight down the ground," he added.
