Kolkata Knight Riders top-order batsman Venkatesh Iyer displayed his sheer power-hitting range last night during the successful run-chase against RCB. But for a moment, his fans as well as KKR fans were a bit scared after Iyer sat down on the pitch amid his blistering knock at the M. Chinnaswamy.

The reason behind Venkatesh Iyer getting down on the ground with evident pain on his face, was due to his back which he later confirmed, was jacked up. The recurring back injury has troubled the tall batter for a while now. And last night when he paused momentarily during the 2nd innings, it seemed as if the back injury has returned to haunt him once again.

But thankfully for Venkatesh Iyer and KKR, the left-hand batter, after getting sprayed on the affected area, was able to get up and continue his batting. Despite that injury scare, Iyer was able to score his first half-century of the season and played a pivotal role in KKR’s second consecutive victory in the 2024 IPL edition. Although he will be gutted to not have been in the crease when the winnings were scored he will be happy to have played his part.

Venkatesh Iyer updates on his back issues after the match

After playing out the match-winning of 50 off 30 balls, Venkatesh Iyer, while speaking to IPL broadcasters, gave a much-needed update on his back issues. The left-hand batter had confirmed that his back is a little jacked up and in simple words that means it’s either strained or on its way to becoming a fresh injury.

Venkatesh Iyer had also confirmed that he will be undergoing scans immediately as he leaves the stadium, to find out if it’s a serious one. However, the strain is unlikely to be that serious as Iyer had stated that he felt good after receiving medical attention and that it got better as the innings proceeded.

The 29-year-old then went on to heap praise on his teammate Sunil Narine, who was adjudged as man of the match during his 500th game in the shortest format. Iyer praised Narine for handling things from one end and putting immense pressure on the RCB bowlers, thanks to his pinch-hitting from the opening position.

Venkatesh Iyer then stated that it was because of Narine’s blister, that he came in and continued to charge against the RCB bowling unit. He then credited his half-century to his fiancee, who was present in the stadium and lastly, he expressed his pleasure to have been able to get the game towards KKR.

“It’s just a little jacked up, have to go and have a scan. To be honest, it got better as the game went on, one end in particular, the Pavilion end and credit to Narine, the pressure was off and we had to go and finish the formalities. It was very important to capitalise on the platform laid, the left-arm spinner was bowling and it was my duty to go after the bowling. Also, my fiancee is here and I would like to credit her.” – Iyer told IPL broadcasters.
