MS Dhoni, on Sunday (March 31), added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The former India skipper achieved another wicketkeeping milestone in his career during the game between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.

He achieved the feat when he took a brilliant catch behind the stumps to dismiss Prithvi Shaw. And the catch helped him become the first-ever wicketkeeper to have 300 dismissals in T20. MS Dhoni was already leading the list for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20s and has now become the very player to enter the 300-dismissal club.

No other wicketkeeper has even touched the 280-dismissal mark so far. MS Dhoni’s former India teammate Dinesh Karthik and Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal are joint-second in the list with 274 dismissals followed by South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and England’s Jos Buttler.

Wicketkeepers with most dismissals in T20s:

  • MS Dhoni – 300
  • Dinesh Karthik – 274
  • Kamran Akmal – 274
  • Quinton de Kock – 270
  • Jos Buttler – 209

In international T20s, MS Dhoni is second in the list behind Quinton de Kock. The India legend, who retired from international cricket in 2020, has 91 dismissals, just one behind leader de Kock. Overall in international cricket, only Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist have more dismissals as a wicketkeeper than Dhoni.

MS Dhoni’s record in international cricket as a wicketkeeper:

He is the only Indian wicketkeeper with more than 300 dismissals in international cricket. MS Dhoni retired from international cricket with a staggering 829 dismissals to his name. Among Indian wicketkeepers, Nayan Mongia is second with 261 dismissals to his name.

Matches: 538
Dismissals: 829
Catches: 634
Stumpings: 195

Meanwhile, Dhoni is yet to face a ball in IPL 2024 and his fans will be hoping that they get a chance to see him bat soon. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman sprung a big surprise just before the start of the tournament by stepping down as the captain of CSK.

He was replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad as the CSK skipper. Things have gone well so far as the reigning champions have started their campaign with two impressive wins.
