Former India wicket-keeper batsman and RCB middle-order batsman Dinesh Karthik was all praise for India's senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is playing in the IPL for the first time since 2022.
Bumrah had to miss the 2023 edition due to a recurring back injury and to be fully fit for India's assignments at the 50-over Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka as well as the ICC Cricket World Cup at home.
And in this edition of the Premier League, Bumrah is preparing himself for the big challenge, which is the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, which is slated to start from June onwards.
Dinesh Karthik had recently appeared in the Sky Sports Cricket podcast along with former England cricketers Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton and therein, he claimed that Jasprit Bumrah is the hottest cricketer around the world.
Karthik made those comments after seeing Bumrah put up yet another commanding performance with the ball during Mumbai Indians' first victory of the IPL 2024 season against Delhi Capitals last Sunday.
Welcome back victory for the 5-time champions
It was a win that put a bright smile on the faces of MI players, team management and of course, the fans who had to be very patient to see their team claim their first victory.
The win was also Hardik Pandya's first as full-time captain of Mumbai and even though there were a few alarming signs for the bowling unit, Pandya will be happy with the way their batting unit performed.
One of the key faces behind their win was Jasprit Bumrah who had put up a match-winning performance of 2/22 with a sensational economy rate of 5.50 in a typical red-soil batting surface at the Wankhede on 7th April.
Dinesh Karthik says he cannot find anyone with the calibre of Jasprit Bumrah at the moment
Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain and Dinesh Karthik were discussing the high-scoring matches that took place between SRH Vs MI, DC Vs KKR and the match between MI and DC.
After they had scored this season's lowest total of 125 runs against Rajasthan Royals on April 1, the Mumbaikars scored the 3rd highest total of IPL 2024 in their win against Delhi.
When DC had come out to bat, they could only score 205 runs and eventually suffered a loss of 29 runs and without Jasprit Bumrah's economical bowling, the win wouldn't have been possible.
On that note, Dinesh Karthik claimed that he cannot name a single bowler who can match the quality and calibre of Jasprit Bumrah. Karthik highlighted Bumrah's consistency and domination across all formats of cricket and the 2013 Champions trophy winner believes that the latter is the most valuable cricketer at the moment.
"That just tells you the quality of him. To be honest, I don’t think there is anyone of his calibre who can play all three formats and dominate the way he is. That’s why I think at this point, he is the most valuable cricketer on the planet. I can’t think of another player in any skillset who dominates it that much.” - Dinesh Karthik said via Sky Sports.
