Former India pacer Ifran Pathan shared his insights for the upcoming Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings match of IPL 2024. Ifran Pathan feels GT skipper Shubman Gill and Punjab Kings opener Jonny Bairstow will be in the spotlight during the match.
GT vs PBKS is match 17 of IPL 2024. The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans will take on Punjab Kings at their home Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. GT won their previous clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets. Punjab Kings lost their last game against Lucknow Super Giants by 21 runs.
With 2 wins and 1 defeat in 3 games, Gujarat Titans take the 5th spot in IPL 2024 points table. On the other hand, Punjab Kings are placed in the 7th spot. Out of 3 games, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side won 1 match and lost 2.
Shubman Gill will be in the spotlight vs Punjab Kings: Irfan Pathan
Speaking in a video on ESPN Cricinfo, cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan revealed who will be in the spotlight in the GT vs PBKS match 17 of IPL 2024. According to Pathan, it will be interesting to see how Shubman Gill handles his batting and captainship vs Punjab Kings.
"Welcome to Spotlight. Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings. Shubman Gill will be in the spotlight. He is from Punjab. He plays for Gujarat. We will keep an eye on him. Along with the captain, we will see how good he is in batting," the former left-armer said. Have a look at the video below.
Irfan Pathan is also excited to watch how Jonny Bairstow and other overseas PBKS batters tackle Rashid Khan’s spin attack in the match.
"And my second spotlight will be for Punjab King's overseas batters. Jonny Bairstow and his other overseas batters. Rashid Khan's Phirki (spin). How he bats in front of him. He will definitely be in the spotlight. These two spotlights will be for me. You tell me, who will be your eyes on?", Ifran Pathan further said.
Irfan Pathan slams Rishabh Pant for missing DRS call
Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan blasted Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant after DC vs KKR game on Wednesday. Pathan criticized Pant for missing DRS calls in the match. He also termed the umpiring as poor.
“Rishabh is generally good with DRS calls but him missing two caught behind calls have cost DC dearly. Umpiring has been poor too,” Pathan wrote in a tweet on X.
Sunil Narine was adjudged not out by an on-field umpire after an edge. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant did not call for a DRS in time. Later, Narine’s knock helped KKR to post a mammoth 272 and eventually win the encounter.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is set to lead his side Gujarat Titans against Punjab Kings. While GT has done a fair job so far this season as well, PBKS struggles like the last season. They have failed to come up with brilliant teamwork in IPL 2024, losing 2 games out of 3.
